Providence Innovation District Park

Client: Rhode Island Department of Transportation
Engineer: Maguire Group

Innovation District Park in Providence, RI occupies land that became available after the I-195 overpass was removed and relocated. The park, which is connected by a bridge to the other side of the river, extends downtown streets through the park along the Providence River. This important civic space on the west side of the river in the Jewelry District includes lawns and river views, creating a perfect space for city-wide events and programming. The park is designed with resiliency in mind, featuring a series of continuous, connected rain gardens that capture, filter, and infiltrate surface runoff from the surrounding pavement.
