Charlestown Navy Yard, Boston, MA
The Charlestown Navy Yard, a ship yard that served the US Navy for almost 175 years, closed in 1974 and is now preserved by the Nation Park Service and developed by the City of Boston. Brown, Richardson & Rowe designed a layout for the park's plaza that displays maritime anchors. A wide, durable boardwalk along drydock 2 with new benches and lightpoles treats tourists to a close view of the Boston Harbor. BR&R worked carefully around the original crane and rails of the historic drydock.
