Cambridge, MA

Russell Field is located near the Alewife Brook Parkway, Jerry’s Pond, and the Alewife MBTA Station. The Linear Park Bikeway crosses the site. The park contains the high school football field, a soccer field, and two Little League ball fields. An MDC swimming pool and parking lot abut the property. The City has completed $9 million rehabilitation of the park, adding a new sustainable field house, artificial turf and a totlot. The project also required the remediation of small quantities of asbestos in the soil during the rehabilitation of the fields.

The football field and field house were officially opened in October 2005.

Russell Field includes several artistic elements. Artist Taylor Davis designed a new bus shelter at the entrance to the park along Rindge Avenue. The totlot references Alewife Brook with a teal and blue fish climber, raft, cattails, and a fishing rod.
