The City of Lowell commemorated its native son with a green park set in the millyard of Massachusetts Mills, adjacent to the Eastern Canal. Many of the sights Kerouac described in town and city are visible here. The focal point of the park is a cluster of polished granite tablets with excerpts from Kerouac's writings. Texas artist, Ben Woitena, designed the memorial. Brown, Richardson & Rowe designed the park and the setting for the commemoration, served on the artist's jury, and provided a calm outdoor space to enhance the enjoyment of the memorial.
The park is built on the site of a demolished building.
Jack Kerouac Park earned an A.I.A. Citation for Excellence in Urban Design in 1990
