Brown, Richardson & Rowe has been selected as the project Landscape Architect for the Jackson Square Mixed-use Redevelopment Project. Located at the crossroads of Boston’s Jamaica Plain and Roxbury neighborhoods, the approximately 9.1 acre redevelopment project will dramatically transform the area by helping to restore the urban fabric that was destroyed to make way for a planned extension of Interstate 95. The redevelopment program will integrate smart-growth, transit-oriented, green design principles to create a healthy and sustainable mixed-income, mixed-use community. The full redevelopment program will be constructed in four phases over a period of six years. Phase One will establish new residential units, office space, retail space, community facilities, pedestrian-oriented sidewalks, public open space and plazas on approximately five acres of the project site. Additional residential, office, retail, community facilities, streetscape improvements and a new public park will be integrated in future phases.

Brown, Richardson & Rowe’s services for this project include: permitting support for Article 80/MEPA and Boston Civic Design Commission (BCDC); design of streetscape treatments including sidewalks, street furnishings and street trees and plantings; design of public plazas adjacent to the new residential and retail buildings; design of a new active public park; and two playgrounds.
