Brown, Richardson & Rowe was founded in 1981 by Nina Brown and Clarissa Rowe. Alison Richardson became a Principal of the firm in 1993 and her name was added to the masthead in early 2002. Currently a sixteen-person firm with ten in-house landscape architects, Brown, Richardson & Rowe is, in the words of one of its clients, "...a firm for the 21st century." The firm practices landscape architecture, urban design, planning and environmental analysis. The landscape architects of BR&R specialize in creating and renovating public and private outdoor spaces.

The firm has designed or renovated parks, campuses, historic landscapes and urban streetscapes. Areas of expertise range from urban design to land reclamation and sustainable design. Clients include municipal organizations, state and federal government, corporate and commercial entities, academic and private institutions, as well as residential clients. Brown, Richardson & Rowe has also done work on several projects for the Central Artery, known in Boston as the "Big Dig."

Attention to detail, expertise and care in plant and material selection, and close personal interaction with clients are just a few things that set Brown, Richardson & Rowe apart from larger competitors.
