East Boston, MA

One of Boston's closest access points to the Atlantic Ocean is at Constitution Beach in the Orient Heights section of East Boston. The Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation revitalized the beach with modernized, safe access and recreation-friendly green space additions. Brown, Richardson & Rowe recommended moving the road and parking lots inland to make room for additional green space next to the beach. Our team designed a large playground, athletic facilities, a bicycle path, shade structures, picnic areas, a "dune," entry road, parking and pedestrian bridge over the Blue Line train tracks. BR&R also chose fast-growing shade trees, beach grasses and perennials to create a seashore environment in the middle of the city.
