In 1996 the Arnold Arboretum gained an additional 24 acres through the efforts of the Arboretum Parks Conservancy. The Boston Parks Department hired Brown, Richardson & Rowe to design a footpath through the newly-added Bussey Brook Meadow between the Forest Hills "T" station and the Arboretum's original South Street Gate. We also designed two new stove and ironwork gates at each end of the path
The pathway was officially opened to the public and transit users in May, 2002. The project made the Bussey Brook Meadow more accessible and enjoyable for the large visitor population that comes to the Arboretum each year.
Brown, Richardson & Rowe won the Massachusetts Horticultural Society award in 2002 for their work on the Bussey Brook Meadow and Blackwell Footpath.
